I put Grim the grimeling on watch duty with Hellion. Which basically meant Grim slept on the mimic and the mimic did whatever is a mimic does, mostly staying very still and pretending to be something it is not.

Harpy rowed me, Rose, and Nox to shore. Nox and Rose hiked up the side of the cliff, and I started along the beach.

If this was somewhere else, without monsters and perpetual danger, this edge of the coastline would be worth millions upon millions of dollars. It was pristine white sand alongside lush green grass and verdant forests. And while it wasn't exactly warm, it wasn't too bad for coming on winter. I barely needed the black cloak I had wrapped around myself. I could almost enjoy the stroll down the beach, keeping an eye out for errant crabs and, you know, surprise giant crabs ready to eat me.

There were no giant crabs trying to eat me, at least on that particular trip. In fact, it was almost dull getting to town. When I caught sight of it, the walls just visible as they stuck out into the ocean, I cut inland.

Not too far inland, though. I still wasn't too confident in my woodland abilities, and getting lost could be a real pain. So I kept the beach in view and followed along parallel as best I could. There were a few streams I had to ford, some trees to climb over, a few thorny bushes to go around, but as afternoon slipped into evening and the sun began to set in a phenomenal display of colors against another oncoming storm, the walls of the city were in front of me.

I paused in the tree line, watching the walls.

As per the norm in Vuldranni, there was a bit of open space in between the trees and the walls, although this side of Furtaxo was not exactly that clear. It seemed as if the town’s lawn care services had been rather lax this year. And maybe some of last year as well. The grass was incredibly long and lush, and quite a few bushes and shrubs popped up here and there. In addition, saplings dotted the area, as if taunting the walls. To be fair, it's not like the walls were all that impressive. Twenty feet or so, with the occasional tower topping thirty-five feet on a good day.

I scanned along the wall.

Nothing. No movement.

I took a deep breath and blinked across the space, dropping right next to the wall in an instant, and then gritting my teeth to hold down the nearly overwhelming wave of nausea. It was hard to tell, but part of me thought the effects were only getting worse the more I used the spell. Not exactly the best news.

Especially because I had to use the spell again, because while the wall wasn't the tallest, it was quite well made, with a nearly sheer surface.

I cast blink again, popped onto the top of the wall, and dropped to a kneel.
